Coach's Corner: Learn To Stand In Your Golf Success
Show Notes Transcript

In this short episode, I'm spendng some time talking about how, as women, too many of us minimize our own efforts, accomplishments and skills on the golf course. Is it because:

  • We don't feel like we belong out there?
  • We don't want to upset or offend other golfers who "should" be better than use because they've been playing longer?

Regardless, it's time to stop playing small and in this Coach's Corner, I explain why!

I'm your host, Dr. Greta Anderson, and I am beyond excited to help you move from just hitting balls to playing your best golf. So let's get to it. Hi there.

Dr. Greta:

Thanks so much for tuning in today. So in this episode, which is going.

Speaker C:

To be a really short one, I.

Speaker B:

Want to spend some time talking about.

Speaker C:

Something that is really important, and I.

Speaker B:

See quite a bit of it.

Speaker C:

So, as you guys know, I teach full time. I'm a golf professional, and I teach.

Dr. Greta:

A lot of women.

Speaker C:

I also teach a lot of several large corporate groups, kind of have little mini schools for several corporations, if you want to kind of describe it that way.

Dr. Greta:

Well, one day recently, some of I was teaching a class and actually, one of the students that came to the.

Speaker B:

Class, she was actually kind of a.

Speaker C:

Graduate of last year's program.

Dr. Greta:

And needless to say, she's been playing.

Speaker C:

And she's been practicing, and she hits.

Dr. Greta:

Just an amazing ball. And so I'm just so pleased to see her hitting. And she's just hitting and you name the club and she's hitting the great shot, high arcing, pretty pure, clean, you.

Speaker C:

Can hear the contact, all that good stuff.

Dr. Greta:

And in fact, a couple of the.

Speaker C:

Gentlemen that are regulars at the facility were commenting kind of like, wow, because.

Dr. Greta:

This was a beginner's class.

Speaker C:

And they're going like, is she really a beginner?

Dr. Greta:

And so as we're talking, I'm explaining.

Speaker C:

That, no, she actually began last year.

Dr. Greta:

And of course, she's standing right there.

Speaker C:

So it wasn't like she couldn't hear.

Dr. Greta:

And then she corrects us to let us know that actually it was late.

Speaker C:

Last year when she began.

Dr. Greta:

So really, she has not been on this golf journey a year at all, but she hits an amazing golf ball. And so the thing that I noticed quickly was how the more compliments she got and it was her and several.

Speaker C:

Other women who strike a really good.

Dr. Greta:

Ball, they began to make excuses, well, I haven't been playing that long, so, I mean, I'm just hitting it well today.

Speaker C:

I practice a lot.

Dr. Greta:

I get tips, I do all this types of thing when they do get those things.

Speaker C:

But the key thing is that they've made the investment and the effort to.

Dr. Greta:

Work to really improve their game. And what I notice oftentimes with women in golf, we don't receive the compliment very well. Now, this goes across the board in.

Speaker C:

Many areas of our life, but it.

Dr. Greta:

Really, really happens in golf.

Speaker C:

And I want to encourage all of.

Dr. Greta:

Us to stop that.

Speaker B:

Hey, if you've put in the work.

Dr. Greta:

And the effort to hit beautiful golf shots, receive that compliment and know that it wasn't by chance you put in the work, so there's no need to apologize to try to make someone else feel comfortable, more comfortable. Make the gentleman feel better, because they.

Speaker C:

Don'T strike the ball that way.

Dr. Greta:

And again, I'm not man bashing at all, so let's be clear on that.

Speaker C:

I really just want to encourage women.

Dr. Greta:

To be okay with lifting ourselves up and knowing that you deserve to be right out there. You've done the work, you're having fun, and so receive the compliment. If you hit a great drive and that ball flies out there 200 yards, it's not a fluke. You did the work. So that is kind of my short statement of the day. Stand in your success, ladies. Let's all do it. Because sometimes we just don't want to.

Speaker C:

Give ourselves credit for whatever reason.

Dr. Greta:

And sometimes I tend to think that's rooted in the fact that we feel like maybe we kind of don't belong out there or this still isn't our playground. Yes, it is. Yes, it is. So that's it for now. Thanks so much for tuning in, and I will see you in the next episode.

Speaker C:

Bye for now.
